Belknap was born in Damariscotta Maine. Belknap is daughter to David Belknap, and Louise Belknap. She went to Lincoln Academy in Newcastle Maine. The acting was her love during her time at Middlebury College Vermont. She then studied at the American Conservatory Theater earning a Master of Fine Arts degree. Belknap is well-known for her roles on television as a regular on series roles (related with ER, Third Watch and Medical Investigation) in The Handler as well as Medical Investigation; a recurring part in Deadline as well as guest-starring roles for Law & Order Law & Order Special Victims as well as Without a Trace. Belknap played in the movie Alchemy and also made her feature film debut in the indie film The Reality Trap. Belknap began her career on the long-running show CSI: NY.
