Audra McDonald is unparalleled in the range and variety of her talent as a singer and an actor. She was the recipient of record-breaking six Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. She was also named in Time magazine among the 100 most influential individuals and received an award called the National Medal of Arts - the top award given in America in recognition of artistic excellence - from President Barack Obama. Due to her stunning soprano's tone and unbeatable ability of telling dramatic tales, she has found success both on Broadway as well as at the opera and on television and film. In addition to performing on stage, she has established a successful career which includes a significant performance and recording career. She performs regularly at the most prestigious places. McDonald was born into a musical family in Fresno, California. She received classical vocal training from The Juilliard School of New York. She won her debut Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of the Featured Actress in a musical for Carousel which was staged at Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years she won two more Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performance of performances in the Broadway premier of Terrence McNally's show Master Class (1996) and the Musical Ragtime (1998) which gave her an unheard of number of Tony Awards before the age of thirty. The actress won the fourth Tony in 2004 starring with Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and the following year in. In 2012, she won five Tony Awards and was the first award in the category of leading actress due to her performance in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess in the lead role. The actress made Broadway history when she became the most popular Tony Award nominee. Her portrayal in the role of Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the show, which was also the catalyst for her Olivier Award nominated debut on London's West End in 2017, was her six award. The first actor to be given awards in four distinct acting categories, McDonald also set a record for the number of awards an actor has been awarded. Her credits in the theatre includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). McDonald's Emmy nominated performance as Emma Thompson in Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was produced by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to network television came in 2003 in which she co-starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. In early 2006 she joined The Bedford Diaries' cast on show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the course of the season, she was a recurring role on NBC's television series Kidnapped. McDonald was awarded a fourth Emmy for her performance as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill, which aired on HBO in the year 2016. The Bite was a six episodes pandemic-themed drama created by Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. McDonald was first seen in The Good Wife, a CBS Legal drama The Good Wife as U.S. attorneys Liz Lawrence and Liz Reddick from 2009 until 2018, reprised these role (now called Liz Reddick) in The Good Fight as the Paramount+ season regular. McDonald received nominations for Three Critics Choice Award awards. The actress is currently a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age on HBO.
